Improving Triathlon Fitness
Ryan is a good follow. I’ve been working with him for the lactate test (video above) as well as tips for his program.
Swim TSS
A challenge of the Training Peaks performance management system is swimming can be “over scored” relative to run and bike workouts.
I asked my network for ideas and some heavy hitters replied. I’m going to use Brandon and Jordan’s advice and score at 17.5 per 1000m.
The whole thread is worth a read if you’re into fine-tuning your load metrics.
I think hrTSS would be a good option with reliable HR. It's what I use in the Mtns when pace is less accurate. It's also what I use for uphill skinning / skimo.
My Forerunner wrist HR is on target some days, too high on others.
Another option is to tighten up the pace zones used by the model. That takes a fair amount of knowledge, doesn't account for gear/medley swimming and requires me to start stop every interval.
So, like Jordan/Brandon said "well enough" has benefits in it's simplicity.
What amount of hrTSS do you get per K?
Completely selfish request: can you describe the protocol for an outdoor running lactate test? Per recent twitter thread, treadmill is a completely different modality for me.
