On Monday, John and I will publish our first chapter, How To Endurance. It’s a biggie and it’s going to be paid content.
I’ll be recording an audio version of the first chapter. Look for that over on my YouTube channel.
What follows is my favorite concept from the chapter, the relationship between fitness and time.
Defining “Fast”
When we set out to build our Specific Capacity, we should do so with the entire race duration in mind.
For example, let’s take the capacity to run a “fast 10K.” This capacity can have many different meanings.
For a 10K runner - it means what it says.
For a marathoner - the capacity is required in the second half of their event.
For an elite long-distance triathlete - the capacity is required after 7 hours of exercise.
For a competitive standard-distance triathlete - the capacity is required after 1,500 meters of swimming and 40 km of cycling.
and the list could go on
Specific capacities must be prepared with an understanding of the time and conditions in which they will be required.
In preparing for your event, resist the urge to blindly throw intensity at yourself. Think through the specific components of performance required on race day.
Looking forward to reading the chapter 👍
