John Hellemans and I had been working on the 2nd Edition his book, The Training Intensity Handbook.
However… John was struggling with his motivation. The subject of training zones has been beaten to death. Perhaps you noticed?
So I extended an offer to write about any topic that struck his fancy. His first effort drops Monday and improves my three-part series on Overtraining.
The Tired Athlete by Dr. John Hellemans
Personal Experience with Commonwealth Games Preparation
Overreaching vs Overtraining
The Role of the Autonomic Nervous System
Nutritional Aspects of Overtraining
Medical Aspects To Consider
Athletes At Risk
I asked for an article and John sent a chapter. It’s the best treatment of the subject I’ve read.
I’m going to paywall John’s content because he’s worth it.
The Free List will receive a long sample.
Substack offers a free 7-day trial so everyone can read the full version.
I have a list of topics I’d love for John to tackle:
Using Altitude & SpO2
Training Juniors & U23s
Developing Elites
The Path To The Top, Coaching World Champions
Combination Workouts For Short Course Racing
Quick reminder on John:
a sports medicine doctor
author of numerous books on endurance sport & coaching
coach to 7 Olympians (4 male/3 female)
coach to world champions in SIX different disciplines
the winner of numerous agegroup world championships, spanning 1993 to 2013
John’s now in the 70-74 age group. He claims he’s “participating” but I’m willing to bet he’s got one more AG World Title in him.
I can think of no better person to complement my experience.
Running Faster on the Same Fitness
Spring Break is over and I’m back in my home studio.
I was a very average runner when I started, 50-minute 10K guy.
Eventually, I became quite good, 2:46 Ironman Marathon.
Along the way, I learned a lot about getting the most out of my fitness.
Race Execution
Running Economy
Metabolic Fitness
Here is a video to help you run faster on the same fitness.
Always practice your best technique.
I love John approach! Hope more people could get to know it! Thanx for your know-how and sharing so much G 🤙🏼🔥
Thanks again Gordo.
Wow, hearing Bobby McGee's name takes me back to the EC podcast you did years ago. That podcast changed my running life. Got my posture sorted, stride shortened etc. Great information.
Looking forward to reading JH story.
