Novice & Recreational Athletes
Gordo, working on building up volume to a goal of 12hrs/wk. Do you have your athletes cut back every 4th week or by doing green zone training properly one shouldn't have to employ recovery weeks? Thank you.
I recommend recovery on demand.
So no fixed recovery weeks.
Within every week, a minimum of two back-to-back easy days. More easy days when required inside the week.
The "game" is cycling the load within the week at a sustainable level.
Then, when life happens or excessive fatigue appears, schedule 3-5 easier days to shed fatigue.
Absent illness, if there's more than 5 easy days required then assume the prior loading strategy needs to come down a little.
